Fordham’s G’mrice Davis Named A-10 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
George Mason’s Nicole Cardaño-Hillary Earned Rookie of the Week Honors
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Fordham’s G’mrice Davis was named as the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while George Mason’s Nicole Cardaño-Hillary earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were for games played Dec. 25-31.
Davis led Fordham to a 3-0 record last week with wins against Hartford, UC Davis and George Washington averaging 18.0 points, 13.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists. She shot 22-of-37 (.595) from the field and was 10-of-13 (.769) from the free throw line. She had 21 points and 13 rebounds against Hartford followed by 19 points and 13 rebounds against UC Davis en route to earning Fordham Holiday Classic MVP honors. In the conference opener against GW, she added 14 points, 15 rebounds and a game-high four assists.
Cardaño-Hillary averaged 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 3.0 assists in a pair of victories last week. On Sunday, she helped the Patriots overcome a 21-point first-half deficit to defeat Davidson in the Atlantic 10 opener by scoring 18 points, grabbing five rebounds, nabbing five steals and dishing out four assists. Her back-to-back baskets in the fourth quarter gave Mason the lead for good and sparked a 20-4 run to end the game. The game before, on Thursday against Longwood, she scored 14 points in a 60-41 victory to wrap up non-conference play. She also five rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll
Dayton’s JaVonna Layfield had 12 points, 24 rebounds and eight steals in a win over La Salle. She recorded the second-most rebounds and steals in a single game in UD women’s basketball history. Freshman Tiaera Phillips scored a career-high 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting to help lead the Flyers past La Salle…Duquesne’s Chassidy Omogrosso scored a career-high 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting in Duquesne’s comeback victory over UMass. In her first career start, Libby Bazelak had two points, seven assists and three steals for the Dukes against UMass…Fordham’s Bre Cavanaughaveraged 16.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals in a 3-0 week for Fordham. She was also named to the Fordham Holiday Classic All-Tournament team…George Mason’s Natalie Butlertied the A-10 single-game record for rebounds with 28 against Davidson. For the week, she averaged 15.0 points and 19.5 rebounds to lead the Patriots to wins over Longwood and Davidson…George Washington’s Chyna Latimer had a career-high 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting against Fordham in the A-10 opener…Massachusetts’ Maggie Mulligan recorded her 26th career double-double with 14 points and 22 rebounds in a road loss to Duquesne. Her 22 rebounds set a new A.J. Palumbo Center record for rebounds in a single-game…Richmond’s Micaela Parson scored 21 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists and five steals in a win over Rhode Island. Freshman Kailyn Fee hit five 3-pointers and finished with 15 points in the Spider’s 74-53 win over Rhode Island…Saint Louis’Jackie Kemph scored a team-high 17
