Massachusetts’ Hampton-Bey Earned Rookie of the Week Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Duquesne’s Chassidy Omogrosso was named as the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Massachusetts’ Bre Hampton-Bey earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were for games played Jan. 15-21.

Omogrosso averaged 25.5 points for the week on 17-of-30 (.567) shooting from the field and was 7-of-15 (.467) from beyond the arc. The junior from Beaver Falls, Pa., had 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting to go along with five assists in the win over La Salle. She followed that performance with a career-high 28 points and six rebounds in a comeback win against George Mason on Sunday.

Hampton-Bey averaged 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 4.5 steals in a split week for the Minutewomen. Against VCU on Sunday, the freshman from Toledo, Ohio, recorded a career-high 31 points and career-high nine assists to go with four rebounds and four steals.  Earlier in the week in a one-point loss to Saint Louis, Hampton-Bey had seven points, 13 rebounds and five steals.

Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll

Davidson’s Kianna Speight scored a personal-best 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including a career-high 6-of-8 from beyond the arc in the win over St. Bonaventure…Davidson freshman Sarah Donovan averaged 9.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, while shooting 9-of-15 from the field for the Wildcats…Dayton’s JaVonna Layfield had a career-high 26 points and 13 rebounds in a 63-62 win over Fordham…Fordham’s G’mrice Davisaveraged 18.0 points and 11.0 rebounds and extended her consecutive double-double streak to nine games…Fordham freshman Bre Cavanaugh scored 34 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field, and was 4-of-11 from beyond the arc and 10-of-11 from the charity stripe in a one-point loss to Dayton…Natalie Butler averaged 15.0 points and 16.5 rebounds in a pair of games for George Mason last week. She extended her double-double streak to 19 games, which currently leads the nation and is the fifth-longest in Division I women’s basketball history... George Mason freshman Nicole Cardano-Hillary scored 25 points and had a career-high seven rebounds against Duquesne. For the week, she averaged 19.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists…George Washington’s Brianna Cummings averaged 17.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.0 assists last week…Massachusetts’ Hailey Leidel averaged 19.5 points on 12-of-27 shooting from the field and was 8-of-17 from 3-pt. range…Rhode Island freshman Marta Vargas scored a team-high 26 points on 7-of-12 shooting against La Salle to earn Rhode Island its first win in league play this season…St. Bonaventure’s Arielle Harvey scored a career-high 21 points in a loss to Davidson on Saturday... St. Bonaventure freshman Emily Calabrese had a career-high 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting in a win over Rhode Island…Saint Louis’ Jackie Kemph averaged 20.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in wins over Massachusetts and Saint Joseph’s. Against SJU on Sunday, Kemph turned in game highs of 21 points and 13 assists for her 15^th career double-double.
