Burdette, Woods Named A-10 Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week

George Mason’s Nicole Cardaño-Hillary Earned Rookie of the Week Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Dayton’s Jenna Burdette and Saint Joseph’s Chelsea Woods were named as the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week while George Mason’s Nicole Cardaño-Hillary earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were for games played Jan. 8-14.

Burdette averaged 24.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game, and shot 47.2 percent from the field in Dayton’s two wins last week. The senior guard from Coolville, Ohio, started the week off with 15 points and five assists in the victory over St. Bonaventure. She followed that up with a career-high 33 points to go with five 3-pointers, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals as the Flyers defeated Saint Louis, 101-76.

Woods averaged 19.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game in wins over Richmond and Massachusetts last week. The senior guard/forward from Philadelphia, Pa., broke the 1,000-career point plateau in SJU’s win over Richmond on Wednesday. Woods had 20 points, 11 rebounds and six assists against Richmond, followed by 19 points, 11 rebounds and five assists against UMass.

Cardaño-Hillary scored 22 points and set career highs with seven assists and seven steals in a 92-53 victory over Rhode Island on Sunday. The point guard from Madrid, Spain, made 9-of-18 shots including four 3-pointers. Her seven steals were the second-most in a single game in program history and just one shy of the school record.

Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll

Davidson’s Mackenzie Latt averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds for the week, and moved into sixth all-time in scoring in Davidson program history.  Davidson freshman Sarah Donovan scored in double-figures in both games this week averaging 11.5 points and 4.5 rebounds…Duquesne’s Julijana Vojinovic recorded 17 points, five rebounds and five assists in Duquesne’s 54-53 win over George Washington…Fordham’s G’mrice Davis averaged 14.5 points and 13.0 rebounds in 2-0 week for the Rams while extending her current double-double streak to seven and pushing her overall total on the season to 16. In addition, she became just the second player in program history to record 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.  Fordham freshman Bre Cavanaugh averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals in wins over Davidson and VCU…George Mason’s Natalie Butlerposted her 17^th straight double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds in Mason’s 92-53 victory over Rhode Island…La Salle rookie Shaquana Edwards had a team-high 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting and hit the game-winning 3-pointer against St. Bonaventure…Richmond freshman Alex Parson scored in double-figures twice and averaged 18.0 points over both games for the Spiders…Mariah Ruffextended her streak of games with 20 or more points to four games after scoring 24 points against Dayton and 30 against La Salle. She averaged 27.0 points and 5.0 rebounds last week for St. Bonaventure…Saint Louis’ Jackie Kemph had a season-high 24 points and game-high 12 assists in a loss to Dayton Sunday.

Fordham’s Davis, St. Bonaventure’s Ruff Share A-10 Women’s Basketball Weekly Honors

Fordham’s Bre Cavanaugh Named Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Fordham’s G’mrice Davis and St. Bonaventure’s Mariah Ruff were named as the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week while Fordham’s Bre Cavanaugh earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were for games played Jan. 1-7.

Davis averaged 24.5 points and 14.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Rams. The senior from Philadelphia, Pa., had a career-high 31 points on 13-of-27 shooting to go along with 15 rebounds, four assists and two steals in a win over Saint Louis. Against UMass earlier in the week, Davis recorded 18 points and 14 rebounds.  

Ruff averaged 27.5 points for the week and was 14-of-27 from 3-point range to lead the Bonnies to a 1-1 week. The senior from Oneonta, N.Y., had a career-high 31 points on 11-of-22 shooting including 8-of-15 from beyond the arc in a narrow loss to Saint Joseph’s. Her 31 points were the highest total for a Bonnies player in nearly six years and her eight 3-pointers were the second most in a game in program history. In a win against UMass on Sunday, she led all scorers with 24 points and also had four assists and three steals.

Cavanaugh recorded back-to-back 20-point performances for the Rams this past week. The freshman from Allamuchy, N.J., had 23 points, five rebounds and five assists in a win over UMass. She followed that performance with 20 points and was 8-of-9 from the free throw line in a nationally televised win over Saint Louis. For the week, she averaged 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists.

Davidson’s Mackenzie Latt averaged a double-double of 16.5 points and 10 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Wildcats. Freshman Katie Turner scored 21 points and was 6-of-7 from beyond the arc in the win over Rhode Island…Dayton’s Jayla Scaife scored a career-high 35 points on 7-of-11 shooting in the Flyers’ 116-58 win over Rhode Island…Duquesne’s Kadri-Ann Lass averaged 16.0 points in a 2-0 week for the Dukes and recorded seven blocks in a win over Davidson. Duquesne freshman Lizzy Bazelak averaged 6.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists for the week…George Mason’s Natalie Butler, the nation’s leading rebounder, extended her consecutive double-double streak to 16 and averaged 16.5 points and 17.5 rebounds over two games. Mason freshman Nicole Cardano-Hillary averaged 25.0 points to go along with 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals over a pair of road games for the Patriots…George Washington’s Brianna Cummings led the Colonials to a pair of conference wins last week. In Sunday’s win against George Mason, she had a career-high 28 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field. For the week, GW freshman Neila Luma averaged 12.5 points and 4.0 rebounds…Richmond’s Micaela Parson averaged 19.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in a split week for the Spiders. Richmond freshman Kailyn Fee averaged 10.0 points and was 6-of-17 from beyond the arc over two contests…Saint Louis’ Paige Rakers scored a career-high 22 points against Fordham on Saturday.

George Mason’s Nicole Cardaño-Hillary Earned Rookie of the Week Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Fordham’s G’mrice Davis was named as the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while George Mason’s Nicole Cardaño-Hillary earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were for games played Dec. 25-31.

Davis led Fordham to a 3-0 record last week with wins against Hartford, UC Davis and George Washington averaging 18.0 points, 13.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists. She shot 22-of-37 (.595) from the field and was 10-of-13 (.769) from the free throw line. She had 21 points and 13 rebounds against Hartford followed by 19 points and 13 rebounds against UC Davis en route to earning Fordham Holiday Classic MVP honors. In the conference opener against GW, she added 14 points, 15 rebounds and a game-high four assists.

Cardaño-Hillary averaged 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 3.0 assists in a pair of victories last week. On Sunday, she helped the Patriots overcome a 21-point first-half deficit to defeat Davidson in the Atlantic 10 opener by scoring 18 points, grabbing five rebounds, nabbing five steals and dishing out four assists. Her back-to-back baskets in the fourth quarter gave Mason the lead for good and sparked a 20-4 run to end the game. The game before, on Thursday against Longwood, she scored 14 points in a 60-41 victory to wrap up non-conference play. She also five rebounds, four steals and two assists.

Dayton’s JaVonna Layfield had 12 points, 24 rebounds and eight steals in a win over La Salle. She recorded the second-most rebounds and steals in a single game in UD women’s basketball history. Freshman Tiaera Phillips scored a career-high 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting to help lead the Flyers past La Salle…Duquesne’s Chassidy Omogrosso scored a career-high 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting in Duquesne’s comeback victory over UMass. In her first career start, Libby Bazelak had two points, seven assists and three steals for the Dukes against UMass…Fordham’s Bre Cavanaughaveraged 16.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals in a 3-0 week for Fordham. She was also named to the Fordham Holiday Classic All-Tournament team…George Mason’s Natalie Butlertied the A-10 single-game record for rebounds with 28 against Davidson. For the week, she averaged 15.0 points and 19.5 rebounds to lead the Patriots to wins over Longwood and Davidson…George Washington’s Chyna Latimer had a career-high 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting against Fordham in the A-10 opener…Massachusetts’ Maggie Mulligan recorded her 26^th career double-double with 14 points and 22 rebounds in a road loss to Duquesne. Her 22 rebounds set a new A.J. Palumbo Center record for rebounds in a single-game…Richmond’s Micaela Parson scored 21 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists and five steals in a win over Rhode Island.
