Duquesne’s Szamosi, Saint Louis’ Kemph Share A-10 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Honors
VCU’s Jailyn Maddox Named Rookie of the Week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Duquesne’s Amadea Szamosi and Saint Louis’ Jackie Kemph were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week while VCU freshman Jailyn Maddox earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards, announced Monday, were for games played Jan. 23-29.
Szamosi averaged 20.5 points and 12.0 rebounds over two wins last week for the Dukes. The senior from Pecs, Hungary, shot 16-of-25 (.640) from the field and recorded double-doubles in both games last week with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Richmond followed by 24 points and 14 rebounds against GW.
Kemph led Saint Louis in wins over George Washington and Fordham last week to put the Billikens in sole possession of second place in the league standings. The junior from Arlington Heights, Ill., had 24 points and six assists against GW along with 15 points and seven rebounds in the win over Fordham. For the week, Kemph averaged 19.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists on 13-of-23 (.565) shooting.
Maddox scored a career-high 15 points in VCU’s win over Massachusetts on Saturday. The freshman from Hoover, Ala., led the Rams in scoringSaturday and was 3-of-6 from behind the arc to help VCU extend their current three-game winning streak.
Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll
Dayton’s Kelley Austria led Dayton to a pair of A-10 victories over George Mason and Rhode Island this past week, averaging 16.5 points per game. Dayton freshman Jayla Scaife averaged 8.5 points and 5.5 rebounds off the bench for the Flyers last week…Fordham’s G’Mrice Davis recorded her 14th double-double of the season against Saint Louis on Saturday with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Fordham freshman Anna Kelly recorded 11 points and nine rebounds along with two assists in 22 minutes of play against SLU…George Washington’s Lexi Martins poured in 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting to go with eight rebounds in GW’s road loss to Saint Louis. GW freshman Kendall Bresee averaged 8.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists last week for the Colonials…La Salle’s Amy Griffin hit the game-winning shot over George Mason on Saturday to extend La Salle’s winning streak to four games. She averaged 17.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals for the week…Rhode Island’s Dina Motrechuk recorded four blocked shots this week, giving her 53 for the season. She is the first URI player in 36 years to record 50 or more blocks in a season…Richmond’s Micaela Parson had 23 points and 12 rebounds in a road win over Davidson, recording her first double-double of her career…Saint Joseph’s Chelsea Woodsaveraged 18.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and shot 54.5 percent from the field over wins against Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure.
